DNV GL’s Synergi Water models open channel flow

With the new release of Synergi Water software, water network engineers can model open channel flow, providing a more efficient and timesaving design process with more accurate results.

Efficient water network design

Many water systems include a network of open channels to transport water, particularly from collection systems to treatment plants. Planners and engineers need to model these systems along with their closed pipe networks in order to optimize the design and operations. Until now, some users have refrained from modelling open channels while others have used models in two separate software systems to model the water flow in both closed pipe networks and in open channels. This can be a cumbersome and time-consuming process. With the new release of DNV GL’s Synergi Water, closed pipe networks and open channel flow in steady state can be modelled directly within the same software.

“We are excited to provide this capability in Synergi Water,” says Kyle Williams, Product Manager. “The pipe editor now includes a tab to specify the attributes of the open channel. All of our users of Synergi Water now have the ability to model open channels using steady state analysis,” he says.

Models more than one liquid in network

DNV GL continues to improve to support the industry by incorporating a number of new features and enhancements. Synergi Water, for water quality analysis and hydraulic modeling, now has the capability to model the transport of more than one liquid in the same pipe network. This new feature allows engineers to run time dependent simulations of pipelines for gathering and transmission of petroleum liquid mixtures and batch transmission of petroleum liquids.

The new release also improves the user interface to support nested search results and improved map displays. The find tool now has the capability to append results and new map colouring has been added to support pressure differentials. In addition, enhancements to master scripting include pressure-dependent demands in the commands.
