Last year, DNV was accredited for the MSC Chain of Custody standard and the Marine Stewardship Council standard for fisheries for sustainable wild catch. The GLOBALG.A.P. Aquaculture standard covers the primary production of seafood, including major species as salmon, shrimp, pangasius and tilapia.

What is GLOBALGAP?
GLOBALG.A.P. (formerly Eurepgap) is the globally recognized B2B standard specifically designed for agriculture to ensure quality, safety and sustainability of a final product.

“In a global seafood market sustainability standards are an effective way of preserving our natural resources and communicating good practices used in fish production, giving the product added value,” says Stefano Crea, Global Industry Sector Manager Food & Beverage in DNV.

The GLOBALG.A.P Aquaculture standard ensures that fish farms are being run in a sustainable manner and meet requirements for:

  • High product safety and quality;
  • Sufficient fish health and welfare;
  • Minimum use of drugs, antibiotics and chemical treatments;
  • Strict adherence to local and international legislation;
  • Minimum impact on environment and surrounding eco-system;
  • Efficient resources utilisation;
  • Traceability and chain of custody;
  • Social responsibility

“We have been involved in the GLOBAL.G.A.P. standard certification since 2001 and have been member of the GLOBAL.G.A.P. certification body committee since 2006,” says Stefano Crea. “We are very excited about moving into another GLOBALG.A.P area and being able to contribute to more sustainable fisheries globally.”
